Escape the cold winter and head to the Galapagos!

Escape the cold winter and head to the Galapagos!

Although it’s in the middle of winter in the northern hemisphere, it’s currently mid- Summer in the Galapagos, and there’s never been a better time to visit!

Many animals take advantage of higher humidity and air temperatures up to 86˚F (30˚C) and come out in great numbers.  The Galapagos is a true paradise for anyone interested in wildlife and nature as the animals that inhabit the islands do not feel threatened by humans.  As a result of this, both on land and under water, visitors are able to get closer to the animals here than just about anywhere on Earth.

At this time of the year, the tropical dry forests have turned green and shrubs are flowering, while songbirds nest, relish and feed their young with native flowering berries and fruits.

The islands are heaven on Earth for photographers – wherever you point your camera you’ll see something interesting and beautiful, and the natural beauty of the islands will make even amateur photographers proud of their work.

In March the penguins on Isabela and Fernandina Islands have their first breeding of the year, Pacific green turtles, as well as marine and land iguanas are still mating and dig their holes in the hot sand, where they bury their eggs to keep them warm.

As the water temperatures are higher, you can comfortably swim without a wetsuit and stay in the water longer as you swim in awe surrounded by sea lion puppies in the eastern islands that are just beginning to learn how to hunt smaller fish for themselves.  Another highlight of the season is that the majestic waved albatross, the only albatross   last but not least: In the second half of March the majestic waved albatrosses return to Española for a new breeding cycle.
